Pangasius (Pangasius hypophthalmus) is a freshwater fish belonging to the Pangasiidae family. In Vietnam, Pangasius originates from the Mekong Delta and major rivers in the far south. The Mekong Delta region is the primary Pangasius farming area in the country, with provinces such as Dong Thap, An Giang, and Can Tho being the main production centers.
2. Nutritional Value
Pangasius is not only an important economic product but also offers significant nutritional value. Pangasius meat contains:
- Protein: High content, easily digestible and absorbed, aiding in muscle building and development.
- Omega-3, 6, 9 fatty acids: Especially DHA and EPA, beneficial for cardiovascular health, brain development, and vision.
- Vitamin E: Supports antioxidation.
- Micronutrients: Selenium, phosphorus, zinc, and B vitamins, which play crucial roles in various bodily functions.
3. Exported Products from Pangasius
Vietnam’s Pangasius export products are diverse, including:

- CPTPP countries: This bloc of countries is showing strong growth in imports of Vietnamese Pangasius.

In 2024 and the first months of 2025, Vietnam’s Pangasius exports recorded many positive signs with growth in many key markets. Despite remaining challenges in terms of competition and trade barriers, the Vietnamese Pangasius industry is still striving to maintain and expand its market share in the international market, while focusing on value-added products to meet the diverse needs of global consumers.
